Kirby: Right Back At Ya!
If I were to include a number of things I thought I would hate but ended up liking, this anime show would be on the (er, somewhat short) list.
In this case I like the original Japanese version better (I’m not Japanese myself – I watch the Japanese versions with the english subtitles on Youtube), so I will be mostly referring to the original version, though I will mention the English version as well.
Kirby: Right Back At Ya! (Hoshi no Kaabii, Kirby of the Stars in Japan) is an anime show licensed by Nintendo, featuring everyone’s (well, perhaps not everyone’s) favorite pink character Kirby, Meta Knight (I like this one), the evil Nightmare, and the scheming King Dedede. With other characters that haven’t appeared in the game, the show takes place in a different timeline (and universe, since the anime is in no way whatsoever connected to the game) than the games.

The Beginning
Kirby, a wanderer on his tiny ship, wakes up after a nap as he finds he is about to land in Dreamland. Not knowing how to drive his own ship he makes an emergency crash-landing near Pupu Village.
In the meantime, the villagers are frightened when they see a giant octupus eating the farm sheep! Suspicious of King Dedede, the villagers gather in the castle to protest, but are driven out by Escargoon, Dedede’s servant. Instead the villagers go to a wise talking stone called Kabu, and ask for his help. Kabu tells the villagers of a legendary Star Warrior who will defeat the demon beasts, including the one eating the sheep. A brother and sister, Bun and Fumu, dream about this Star Warrior and start to get ideas. Dedede threatens to destroy Kabu when everyone spots a strange spaceship on a cliff. When they rush to investigate, who climbs out but a round, pink soft creature called Kirby! Dedede doesn’t believe that Kirby is the real Star Warrior, and whacks him with his mallet, sending Kirby flying into a canyon.
Bun and Fumu try to climb down the canyon to find Kirby, when Fumu slips. Kirby was actually taking a breather on a rock the whole time, and sees Fumu falling. He floats over to her and manages to stop both of them hitting the floor. Perhaps, Bun says, Kirby is the Star Warrior after all.

The Characters
Here I list and describe the best I can the main characters, and some important guest characters and antagonists in the show. As time goes on I may add or change information, and add new characters if requested.
Note: I’m still working on this page, so don’t complain about it being empty!
Here’s a doozy: Guess what character I’m going to type about first?
Kirby
Pink, soft, round… does this sound like a Star Warrior to you? But he may pull through just yet…
Kirby is, as Meta Knight describes, a baby Star Warrior. Surprisingly Kirby himself is one of Nightmare’s creations but was considered a failure. No one knows how Kirby got out of there, or how he got into a Star Warrior’s ship in the first place. However, other than those facts, Kirby is like a child.
Kirby has a huge appetite. At one point in the show he is seen inhaling a feast laid out for at least ten villagers, and he can even swallow a whole watermelon in a single sitting. Like any kid, he enjoys playing, and sleeps a lot also. He doesn’t talk very much, except for the same word – “poyo” – although he does say it very expressively. He understands the villagers, but can speak little himself. However Meta Knight and a few other characters appear to understand him perfectly; everyone else in the series relies on his body language and his expressions.
In battle, Kirby can inhale enemies and items (unless they are dense or heavy) and copy their abilities. For example, if he swallows a sword, he becomes Sword Kirby. In the series this technique is simply called “Inhale.” If he does inhale something and copies it, it is called a Copy Ability. As a result, Kirby can become a variety of “different” Kirbies – Sword Kirby, Fighter Kirby, Fire Kirby, Galaxia Kirby, Stone Kirby, Parasol Kirby, Ice Kirby, even Ninja Kirby, and more. However, his true power is unlocked when his Warp Star is summoned (he cannot summon it himself, but Fumu is often the one who summons it instead). At the mere sight of it he becomes excited and grows stronger. When he jumps on his Warp Star, he can fly around, making battle easier for him.
Kirby can also wield Meta Knight’s sword, Galaxia.
In Japanese, Kirby is pronounced Kaabii.
Fumu
Fumu (Tiff in the english dub) is Bun’s sister, and the first child of Cabinet Minister Parm. She lives in the castle and is good friends with Kirby.
Fumu is the one who calls upon Kirby’s Warp Star, making Kirby more powerful.
Bun
Bun (Tuff in the english dub) is Fumu’s brother, and the second child of Cabinet Minister Parm. He lives in the castle and is good friends with Kirby.
(Sir) Meta Knight
Ah, my favorite character of the whole show.
Sir Meta Knight was a high-ranking soldier in the Galaxy Soldier Army, and wields the Holy Sword Galaxia. However when eventually he became the last GSA soldier, injured, he flew in his spaceship until he landed in Dream Land, where he has resided in Pupu Village. Meta Knight later became King Dedede’s servant, along with his two followers Blade Knight and Sword Knight. However he is really on Kirby’s side, and may just be Dedede’s servant to keep an eye on him.
Meta Knight follows a code of honor and gives Kirby a sword before fighting him, to be fair. He understands Kirby perfectly well.
King Dedede
The self-proclaimed ruler of Dream Land. He sure looks like a penguin, doesn’t he?
King Dedede carries around a wooden mallet, and often drives around (or, rides while Escargoon drives around) in a small tank. In his room he has a system set up in which he can download demon beasts from the Holy Nightmare Company and use them to, in most cases, attack and attempt to destroy Kirby. However he sometimes goes overboard on downloading these monsters and ends up with an unpaid, if not huge, bill.
Escargoon
The snail that is King Dedede’s servant. In one episode, his mother comes to visit him, and he has to pretend he is king because he lied to her before.
Escargoon is nearly constantly King Dedede’s punching bag. However, despite the fact he is almost always tormented by his king, he remains loyal to Dedede and probably simply wishes for Dedede to appreciate him.

Episodes
I have yet to update this part of the page. However, for now you can go to www.youtube.com to view episodes. I reccommend typing into the search box:
Hoshi no Kaabii episode _ part _
Because more people call the videos Hoshi no Kaabii than Kirby: Right Back At Ya!. By searching like this, you are most likely to get the original Japanese versions with English subtitles. If you’d like to watch the dubbed version, however, simply visit www.4kids.com/videos/ and find the Kirby logo up top.
